I discovered something a few weeks back that I just can’t resist sharing. Let me set the scene. Claude had just come back from Tampa, FL. He was raving about a raw food cafe called Grass Roots. Not only did they serve the most amazing onion bread, but they had phenomenal smoothies too. He mentioned how they sprinkled bee pollen on top of them.

I had a light bulb moment. For sometime I had been procrastinating ordering bee pollen. So this gave me the impetus to get on to it.

To cut a long story short, I received my bee pollen (the fresh frozen variety). At first I blended it into the smoothie. Claude kept saying how it was way better to have it sprinkled on top. My ego resisted his suggestion.

However, I did give it a go. Mmmmmmm heaven! Love, bliss, joy - you name it. I can’t imagine my green smoothie without it! I might be in the early stages of addiction :)

Okay, so what does this have to do with toddlers? Every morning I make a green smoothie for Zenchai  and myself. He normally drinks half a cup - sometimes more. When he saw I had bee pollen on my green smoothie, he wanted to try some. He tried it but wasn’t overly impressed. We improvised with gojis instead. Not only did he drink the whole amount in his Thomas the Tank Engine cup but he asked for more. It became a game for him - drinking the green smoothie, then looking in his cup to find his gojis had magically disappeared and asking for more.

Toddler Tip: Make a beautiful green smoothie and try sprinkling gojis, bee pollen or buckwheaties on top. Watch the health giving smoothie disappear. This is a sure way to have green smiles all around!

Hummer Fuel Green Smoothie (obviously named by Zenchai!)

1 banana, 1 passion fruit, 1/2 mango, 1 pear, at least two big handfuls of spinach, TBS. flax oil, water or almond milk for blending (I usually add just enough to cover the blades).

Gather all the ingredients (make sure your fruit is ripe), wash, chop into blender friendly sizes, place it all in the blender and blend until smooth.
