This amazing indoor role-playing complex built for children (aged two-14) in a suburb of Fort Lauderdale is a great, but dear, outing.
Zenchai went there with five of his second cousins and had such a great time he asked me for the next three days when we were going back.
If it were cheaper, I’d have done jumped at it. But at $40 for kids and $10 for adults (it’s marginally cheaper for Florida residents), this is a costly excursion.
However, it’s the sort of place where your child can play and learn to his or her heart’s content and mix with other children through role playing.
Whether your youngster wants to be a detective, fireman (where they actually hold a hose and put out a mock fire), policeman, photographer, pilot, doctor, actor, lawyer, radio and TV broadcaster or chef, you’ll find plenty to keep them amused, immersed and enthusiastic.
Zenchai’s favourite tasks (when I asked on the day) were working in the supermarket and being a detective. I was convinced he’d have preferred being a fireman. When I posed the same question a few days later he said he enjoyed being a policeman. There you go.
Children are first taken to a bank, where they open an account and are given (pretend) money. They then earn with each job (the currency can only be used within Wannado City on some of the rides and in the gift shop on small items), the idea being to give them a feel of what it’s like to earn a living. Zenchai looked so pleased with himself after getting his wages.
The children are referred to as “Kidizens”, get to learn responsibility, work in teams and dress up in uniforms.
I had my reservations before going, but having experienced Wannado, I’d recommend it – even at their lofty prices.
Be sure to check with them about opening hours as they vary from month to month.
