I WAS reading Zenchai his bedtime stories when Jamie came into the bedroom and, with Kobra on the breast and asleep, whispered to me to come out.
I put down the book and Zenchai, curious of course, followed me out. "Look at the sky," Jamie said. We did. And we saw these strange orange lights, one by one, travelling across the city in what seemed like a formation of some kind.
Immediately, I thought about what they could be. Aeroplane? Balloon? Helicopter? But the shapes and movement didn't fit any of the aircraft that sprang to mind. I'd never seen anything like it.
The light of all the aircrafts were bright and larger than you would see on any aeroplane. Each one looked identical, like tiny moons and all bright orange. And there was absolutely no sound, which ruled out a helicopter or plane or there being a spotlight.
So we continued watching, feeling puzzled yet intrigued. About a dozen or more went through the sky at decent speed and then disappeared into the distance, high and far.
UFOs? I'd never seen one before. But this fitted the description perfectly. They were flying objects and I could not identify them. And when I started researching a little on the internet, I discovered that over the past decade or more quite a few reports of similar sightings in or around Chiang Mai had been filed. And these type of sightings are cropping up everywhere and have been for ever since I can remember.
I tried filming what I saw with my camera, but it was much too dark (as you can see from the uploaded video). My equipment is not sophisticated enough and I was too far away. But the vision remains clear in my mind.
What this all means I have no clue. But the owner of the house in which we lived had warned us about UFO sightings and, to be honest, I just shrugged it off at the time.
What we saw, though, took place on a Saturday night around 8.30pm and directly over Chiang Mai. Surely we couldn't have been the only ones to have seen it?
Wow! That makes it all the more credible coming from you, as I've been reading your blog for over 18 months! Woo hoo!

I saw the exact same thing here last night in North Carolina, USA. Very strange. I have been Googling, and apparently these were seen in New Zealand yesterday as well.

I have seen these orange lights on two different occasions (both times in London but in two different locations). The news report said that the lights were apparently 'Chinese lanterns' ......I find this hard to believe...

Agree with you about the lanterns. We had read also that some people mistake the lanterns for UFOs, but there was no way this was the case with our sighting based on the size of the objects we saw, the speed at which the orbs moved and the distance they covered.

Is that a real UFO?? I'm not really sure

Wow! I'm so glad I found your post as I saw what sounds like the very same lights cruising over Chiang Mai this week, on Wednesday 18 July. I couldn't believe nor comprehend what we saw. But they were huge bright, round orange lights flying across Chiang Mai in various formations.

That's very interesting. Was there anyone else with you?
