It’s undergone a significant facelift since my last visit eight years ago. Now there are trendy shops and bars everywhere. The city smells of wealth. It has a far less depressing feel to it.
Our stop here was only short – enough time to catch up with family, grab a meal at an excellent vegan macrobiotic restaurant (Nova, Ilica 72) – with a great health food store next door - and take a ride on one of the new trams (which are free in the city centre).
It feels safe and clean and the people were very friendly (although it always helps when speaking the native language).
However, there is traffic (not unusual for a city) and parking can be difficult. But there’s plenty to see - impressive buildings and squares and some parks. Next time we will have to stay longer.
